Our Core Principles
Our five Core Principles guide our work, relationships, and decision-making on a daily basis and are deeply interwoven into our methodologies and embedded within our products and services. It is not enough to post these here on a website and forget they exist.
Holistic Purpose
All people were beautifully created with unique skills, talents and personalities. Our desire is to have a wonderfully diverse workforce, where each team member is able to joyfully pursue their personal calling at work, while thoughtfully ensuring relationships, rest, exercise, and pursuit of personal goals are given just priority. We want to see our relationship with work build (rather than deplete) the wisdom, energy, and creative potential we have to share with the world. |
He who has a why to live can bear almost any how. -- Friedrich Nietzsche |
True Belonging
We listen to, and incorporate diverse perspectives in key decisions that affect the stated and unstated cultural patterns around us. We recognize, respect, and support each other, observing how a person feels, what matters to them, and their universe of experiences, opinions, and motivations. We establish trust and safety, so individuals can appropriately take risks and make meaningful contributions at work with their unique knowledge, skills, and capabilities. We hold the opinions of others in esteem and debate respectfully without arguing or dismissing others. |
True belonging never asks us to change who we are. True belonging requires us to be who we are. -- Brene Brown |
Lighthearted Adventure
Throughout our work journey, the challenges and mistakes we encounter are essential stepping stones to growth and success. We maintain a light-hearted atmosphere, where we don’t take ourselves too seriously and can laugh at our missteps. Fun and genuine social interactions are key to building a vibrant community where everyone feels connected and motivated. By celebrating our successes and enjoying the journey, we cultivate a workplace where creativity and collaboration thrive, making every day a new opportunity. |
Just keep taking chances and having fun. — Garth Brooks |
Boundless Imagination
The dreamers, inventors, and innovators of past and present swim against a current that says, “That can’t be done.” Even the iconic inventor Leonardo da Vinci saw resistance to his work throughout his lifetime, yet he had a hand in the creation of helicopters, cars, and diving equipment. Every single day, individuals and organizations dare to pursue lofty goals and seemingly unrealizable dreams. We wake up everyday asking, “How might we steward their ambitions?” Our culture is marked by creativity, curiosity, and possibility. We dare to optimistically dream that our loftiest goals for ourselves, our families, our companies, and the world are truly possible. |
Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it. — Roald Dahl |
Lasting Outcomes
Our clients and portfolio companies deserve tailored solutions that help them deliver products and services that matter and stand the test of time. Unlike traditional approaches to strategy, our methodology leverages the most useful elements of human-centered design, agile principles, and organizational psychology to mobilize workforces to overcome the pace and severity of disruption. At the same time, our approach is deeply practical and grounded in time-tested science, not reliant on the latest fleeting craze. This balance results in lasting solutions that mutually benefit our clients and our own organization over the long-term, because when they win, we win. We’re fiercely competitive; not to win a client’s business, but to be remembered as their most valuable partner. |
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler. -- Albert Einstein |
Why name a company after the Heron?
01THEY THRIVE EVERYWHERE
Different species of herons are found on every continent on earth except antarctica. They are a broad species that have adapted to many different climates and regions, being able to thrive in multiple contexts. |
02THEY PRIORITIZE DIVERSE COMMUNITY
During mating season, herons often live in diverse colonies among a variety of other species. Outside of this season, they can exist for periods on their own, balancing both togetherness and isolated stillness. |
03THEY HAVE STRONG VISION
They are known for very strong vision and can effectively navigate and hunt during both day and night conditions. |
04THEY HAVE NEAR UNIVERSAL SYMBOLISM
From the Ancient Egyptians to African and Asian cultures, the Heron symbolizes patience, grace, stability, and adaptability. It is also recognized as a messenger in the struggle between good and evil. |
